MINING
Asia Power holds the exploration license over blocks 3A & 3B at the Thar coalfields. The Blocks measure some 176 km2 in area and contain over 3.4 Bn tonnes of coal resources. The area contains 54 exploration drill holes that were drilled by the Geological Survey of Pakistan and the United States Geological Survey.
The Block contains multiple coal seams of some 20m in total thickness to a depth of approximately 180m. The coal is high quality lignite with a net calorific value of around 14 MJ / kg, ash content of around 7% and has a relatively low sulphur content below 1%
The Coal measures are overlain by loose and compacted Aeolian sand dunes that allow the overburden to be removed cost effectively without drilling or blasting
