POWER
There is a chronic shortage of power in Pakistan which leads to frequent power outages. Independent power producers meet over 50% of the country’s power requirements. As part of a national plan to increase power production, help reduce power outages and increase independence, the Government of Pakistan together with the Sindh Provincial Authorities have launched a major initiative to develop the Thar Coalfields and generate further power for the national grid.
Asia Power is creating 1320 MW of power generating capacity in the form of a power station complex located adjacent to the mine and feed directly from it. The power will be sold into the Pakistani national grid as a base load power station, under a proposed long-term contract with WAPDA, the Water and Power Development Authority of Pakistan.
